We all end up taking night pictures at some point. Obviously without daylight we have to get creative to capture the scene but with a little practice night pictures can be fun and return some dramatic results.
As the year 2015 draws to a close we’ve decided to look back at some of the night pictures from our blog over the last 12 months and pick out our top 10 images, all taken after dark.
10. St Helena – First football game on St Helena played under floodlights

9. Thailand – City street traffic in Bangkok
Bangkok, Thailand. The city centre of Bangkok after dark is bedlam with the non-stop traffic, very tempting for night pictures. The BTS (public train system) network provides great overhead walkways to photograph the streets below. For more of Bangkok, Click Here.

8. London – Dan Ground, living on the streets of London
Homeless Frenchman, Dan Ground, earns a living playing his djembe drum and also by drumming on buckets on the streets of London, UK. After meeting Dan on the underground, we later met up on Regent Street after dark to see him perform. Click Here for the full story.

7. Chicago, Illinois – Cloud Gate Sculpture in Millennium Park
The Bean – Cloud Gate Sculpture – has quickly become one of Chicago’s most popular tourist attractions. It’s metallic bubble like appearance proves popular among all ages. It is especially fascinating for photographers of all abilities who are inspired by the shape and stunning cityscape reflections it generates. 6. Vietnam – Night Market romance in Hanoi
A tender moment in Hanoi’s night street market, on Hàng Đào street in Vietnam. Night markets are very popular in Southeast Asia and a great place to observe culture and capture spontaneous moments like this. For the full story and pictures of Hanoi’s night street market, Click Here.
5. St Helena – Shot in the dark, Governor’s Cup Yacht Race
Yacht, Vulcan 44, arriving after dark at St Helena in the Governor’s Cup Yacht Race. Photographing the yachts finishing was particularly challenging as most of them arrived at night. For the full story and all the pictures, Click Here.
4. Night Pictures Cambodia – Victory Monument in Phnom Penh
Independence Monument, or Victory Monument, where Cambodia’s Independence Day parades usually begin from. Independence Monument is located at the junction of the Preah Norodom and Preah Sihanouk Boulevards and at the end of Neak Banh Teuk Park. For our One Night In Phnom Penh story, Click Here.
3. Memphis, Tennessee – Hernando De Soto Bridge
The bridge is named for 16th century Spanish explorer Hernando de Soto who explored this stretch of the Mississippi River, and died south of Memphis.
At night, the bridge is illuminated by 200 sodium vapor lights along its “M” structure. The big “M” on the bridge has become a symbol of the city. Check out our story of 12 hours in Memphis, Click Here.
2. London – Houses of Parliament across the River Thames
The Palace of Westminster in London, more commonly known as the Houses of Parliament. This classic view of the famous building was taken from the south bank of the River Thames on a beautiful clear summer night. For more about what makes London so special, Click Here.
1. New Orleans, Louisiana – Saint Louis Cathedral in the French Quarter
Saint Louis Cathedral is in the French Quarter of New Orleans. It is located next to Jackson Square and facing the Mississippi River.
