MORE THAN JUST COFFEE | Darrin Henry
A Mugg and Bean famous giant muffin has me drooling the minute we enter the coffee shop. Smells of freshly baked goods makes our heads swivel like cartoon characters following wispy aroma trails. The plan for ‘just a Mugg and Bean coffee’ falls apart. Talk about no will power!
Ok, just one muffin to go with the bottomless coffee. But this is no ordinary muffin – my giant muffin arrives at our window table at Cape Town’s V&A Waterfront. We’re talking a mini dinner here.
Mugg And Bean Menu Made From Scratch
The giant muffin is a golden, crusty topped temptation filled with sun dried tomatoes, spinach and feta cheese, served steaming hot. We don’t get this back home; not this size anyway. Mugg and Bean restaurants build their reputation on generous portions, but this is something else.
Pots of grated cheese, jam and butter are placed on the plate like three colourful little planets orbiting a big golden sun. Can we really be gushing about a muffin? Yes, it seems we are. Too late to try looking cool about it, anyone watching must clearly see we’re quite taken by this.

Mugg n Bean menu boasts this famous giant muffin made of sun dried tomatoes, spinach and feta cheese. It’s simply delicious.

Mugg and Bean coffee a bottomless mug of Americano, for me.

M&B restaurant reputation for great service and generous portions doesn’t disappoint.
Mugg And Bean Cape Town
Cape Town is probably one of the best food cities in the world, eating out we’re spoilt for choice. So we tend not to go back to the same place twice in one visit, but a Mugg & Bean visit is obligatory every trip.
We first discovered this coffee shop/restaurant over ten years ago on another visit to the Mother City. The service and quality of product keeps us coming back.
Spreading The Love
The first restaurant opened in 1996 with an ethos of generosity reflected in its portions and bottomless coffee. Since then the Mugg and Bean franchise has spread to 220 locations across Africa. They offer all day breakfast and a delicious lunch menu.
So there we go. R39.90 for a famous giant muffin, sweet vegetarian or savoury. To go with ‘just coffee.’
Another good Mugg & Bean experience and the first muffin to make our blog! We’ll be back.

Mugg & Bean muffin being well appreciated.
