A BIG TURNOUT TO WELCOME LISA PHILLIPS | Darrin Henry
St Helena’s new Governor, Lisa Phillips, stepped ashore at 8.06am this morning, Monday 25 April, 2016, met on the wharf by the Head of Governor’s Office, Sean Burns and Mrs Marina Burns and also the island’s elected councillors and other government officials.

In this historic period for the island where so many significant milestones are being recorded, mainly surrounding the brand new St Helena airport and the start of air access, Ms Phillips is the first female governor of St Helena and also the last governor to arrive by sea.
Travelling with the Governor Designate was Mr Alex Cameron, Head of Southern Oceans Department, OTD, FCO.
Ms Phillips chose to walk from the steps, along the sea front to the Castle. She was then driven to her new residence, Plantation House.
At 2pm the traditional Inauguration Ceremony was held on the Courthouse Terrace with a large turnout of spectators and well wishers filling the Parade Square.
Uniformed contingents added vibrant colour to proceedings as they marched through Jamestown to the sounds of the Scout band.
