MUSIC, MAKE-UP AND STRIKE A POSE | Darrin Henry
It pays to have good neighbours when you are turning up the music on a week night for a photo shoot; as it happens we’re lucky to have some of the coolest around.
So, with a full batch of MP3s loaded onto the player we dragged the furniture out of the way and fired up our studio lights as another of St Helena’s stunners, Jodi Wade, stepped onto our backdrop for her first time modelling.

First Time Modelling Black and White
Although it was Jodi’s first time modelling, I had tried to tempt her over a year ago to give it a go. Finally we were getting it done and despite some initial nerves, it was clear she belonged in front of the camera.
With first-time models I am always conscious I need to keep things moving quickly, not too much faffing about with lights and backdrops, don’t keep the model waiting. Sharon is quick to recognise when I’m getting carried away and reminds me not to let the shoot drag!
Determined to maximise our time on set, we picked out five combinations from the outfits Jodi brought along and then Sharon set about her work with the make-up brushes.

My photography output preference is nearly always (nearly always) colour. Even though I usually edit grayscale versions of the chosen images in post-production, these aren’t normally posted.
But with this particular shoot I’ve decided to use the black and white files. They work really well, I think, with Jodi’s chiselled features and that lovely skin tone that Saint girls have.
It’s hard to say which is my favourite look. Jodi has a fun, dazzling smile which comes very naturally but she also carries the sultry look easily. I do know from the results you wouldn’t know it was Jodi’s first time modelling. We had a great time and I’m looking forward to doing it again!
Here’s a selection of the work we produced on a rainy night in Alarm Forest with the music turned up.

Thanks Pat, always appreciate your feedback. 🙂
What an absolutely stunning model, if all the UK Overseas Territories use to pick a model Jodi would be crowned the Queen of them all. I think the Air Excess Office and our island Councillors should invite your Blog Models to the Opening of St Helena’s Airport to stand alongside His Royal Highness Prince Edward at the airport. As always wonderful photography.
Cheers Borbs! 🙂
Stunning Darrin … Congrats to all three of you – and your understanding neighbours!
Thanks Lally, we really do have the best neighbours! Cheers 🙂
Stunning. Thank you for sharing!
You’re welcome, thanks for the comment Glynis.
Amazing photography, what an absolute gorgeous model, that smile and dimples says it all 🙂
How could we not get good pictures of such a stunner, eh! Thanks for the feedback Julie 🙂
I love it. You continue to inspire me. I feel lucky to of started photography here on St Helena where I can learn and gain inspiration from you. I think Jodi is a stunning model and you have both brought the very best out of the shoot. I love it. When I get back to the UK I need a make up artist, a wardrobe and some more gear!!!
Thanks Paul for the kind feedback. Jodi makes our job easy though. Yes, never underestimate the role of a good make-up artist on a shoot, makes all the difference. Cheers 🙂
