A SHORT VIDEO INVESTING IN TIME | Darrin Henry
Capturing good landscape photographs of St Helena you would think would be easy for photographers living on the island, as we do.
Pleased as Sharon and I are with our portfolio, assembling the collection has been a real labour of love. The incredible scenery around the island can be quite deceiving when it comes to photography. I’m talking about the quest for good light; our constant guessing game with the irregular St Helena weather.
Dragging ourselves out of a warm bed in the dark to go fumbling around on a hillside in time for sunrise is no fun when a blanket of cloud covers the ‘golden hour.’
It’s always a bit of a gamble, which more times than not seems to result in a blowout. But then, if it was easy… and to be honest, it’s all worth it for those special moments when the big spotlight comes on.
I guess, that’s what it’s all about.
“Time is the most important investment you can make in getting good landscape pictures” according to landscape photography advice from National Geographic. They would know!
It’s always a dilemma trying to choose pictures for these posts, so we’ve decided to include plenty by making a short video of our efforts to shoot landscape photographs of St Helena. Have a look:

Fantastic video! Having just started through my photos from our recent trip, i am acutely aware of how tough it is to capture the beauty of Saint Helena through a camera lens. Love the soundtrack as well.
Cheers
I know, having said that, sometimes I see visitors’ pictures who have been here a few days and have captured something we’re still struggling to get ourselves! We all need that little bit of luck sometimes, eh!
Good to hear from you guys, good luck with sorting your pictures. Hope the Barn images came out ok 🙂
Cheers
Awesome!
Cheers Simon 🙂
Beautiful pics and narrating! Brilliant!
Haha, the narrating seemed to be harder to do at times than taking the photos!!
Thanks for the comment, Jean 🙂
Fabulous photography, Love it.
Cheers Borbs 🙂
Chasing the light is one thing… but catching it is the real challenge both of you, Sharon and Darrin, are succeeding marvellously to shoot your subject with passion.
Thanks again for all the island ‘s glows you are sharing.
You’re welcome, Michel, thanks for the comment. 🙂
Just wonderful! Congratulations to both of you!
Thanks Chris, good to hear from you. Cheers
