Street Vogue In Bo Kaap – The Cape Town Photo Shoot
CAPTURING THE MEGHAN SPARKLE | Sharon Henry
Negotiating cobbled streets in killer heels requires serious light-footed deftness and on this Cape Town photo shoot, in beautiful Bo Kaap, our fashion model, Meghan seems to have a black belt in the discipline. She’s skipping along with ease around one the Mother City’s most photogenic neighbourhood. “It’s like second nature to me,” she laughs. “I’ve always wanted to do modelling, when I was younger I made my Dad buy me heels that I wore constantly at home so I’ve been practising since I can remember!”
This Is What A Bookworm Looks Like
Yes, we’re in spectacular Cape Town and it would be a crime if we didn’t take the opportunity to notch up a photo shoot – so we’ve hooked up with lovely Capetonian, Meghan Lee Prins, 21, a part-time model with aspirations to become a catwalk professional someday.
She is also a self-proclaimed maths freak, book worm and adrenalin junkie. “I love all things numbers and problem solving,” Meghan tells us. “I always have my nose in a book, my favourite is Jodi Picoult’s ‘Nineteen Minutes’ and I love fast paced things, anything that gives me a rush.”

“I recently went on my friend’s motor bike on the M5 which is one of our main roads, riding over 200/kmh. Wow I was on such a high! I like the outdoors as well. I did zip lining at Blue Rock which is one of the longest in South Africa.”
Check out our behind the scenes video from the shoot:
The residents of Bo Kaap, the Cape Malay Quarter of Cape Town, appear quite accustomed to camera wielding visitors shooting their candy-coloured homes. They nonchalantly go about business as we pick spots for our fashion shoot, returning greetings as we pass by.
Cape Town is easily one of our favourite cities, it’s got beauty, style and charisma – just like Meghan.
“The night life here is awesome,” she tells us, “I like to keep it local because it’s close to home so I go to a lot of places in the Southern suburbs. I mainly enjoy pub hopping, I like conversation with music in the background.”
The Sun, Moon & Stars – Insider Secrets
Meghan’s inside tip for anyone visiting the city is a sunset hike to Lion’s Head when there’s a full moon. “It’s not strenuous and it’s amazing watching the sunset and the stars come out, and then just turn around, there’s the full moon. It’s a really stunning view.”
Speaking of views, we’re heading to a rooftop bar next, calling for a change of wardrobe for the new setting. Meghan’s looking gorgeous in a full length body-con dress. “When I’m at home I dress very differently,” she smiles, “large t-shirts and pyjama shorts. But when I’m out I like to keep it chic and stylish, something you can go to dinner in. That’s how I like to look on a regular basis.”
No Strings Attached
And who’s the person she’d most like to dine with? “The Weeknd (singer). I love his music, his sound, his style. If he decides to come here for a show I’ll have to buy a ticket because I need to see him!”
Of course this naturally steers the conversation to love interests. “I can get very deep at times,” Meghan confesses, “so I want someone who can understand me. But I’m also the type that likes to do her own thing, I don’t want anybody that says no you can’t. Obviously it comes down to respect in the relationship and a little compromise.”
Compromise is something we’ve not had to do on this shoot. After the vibrancy of street shooting in Bo Kaap we’ve enjoyed virtually exclusive access to the rooftop bar at Touchstone House on Bree Street. Against the incredible city backdrops and iconic Table Mountain our Cape Town photo shoot with the glamorous Meghan, has simply been perfect.
